The month of September ended with two mega theatrical releases – Vikram Vedha and Ponniyin Selvan 1. Vikram Vedha is a Hindi remake of the 2017 Tamil film with the same name. Prior to its release, the film was surrounded by a lot of negativity. One, the film is a remake of an already hit film. Second, the audience has been criticizing the Bollywood industry and its celebrities for quite some time and call for their boycott from time to time. However, despite all this, Vikram Vedha opened to good reviews from the critics as well as the audience. Check out the box office collection of the film on the first day of its release.
Vikram Vedha Box Office Collection Day 1:
Despite good reviews, the film failed to earn impressive figures on its opening day. The Pushkar Gayathri directorial earned Rs 10-11 crore. The numbers are similar to what Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha (Rs 11.7 crore), Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj (Rs 10.7 crore) and Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera (Rs 10.2 crore) collected on their respective opening days. According to a report by Box Office India, Vikram Vedha did not perform well in states like Gujarat and Maharashtra. It may be due to the Navratri celebrations along with clash with Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1.
Vikram Vedha Movie Review:
Senior journalist Bharathi S Pradhan gave 3.5 star rating to the film and praised the “the compelling performances of Saif and Hrithik”. She added, “writer-director duo Pushkar & Gayatri strike the right balance in Hindi.” However, she also said that “it is not a perfect film.” Read the full review here.
