Vijay Deverakonda Gets Emotional As He Address Liger Failure At SIIMA 2022

Vijay Deverakonda addressed the failure of Liger at South Indian International Movie Awards 2022

Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer Liger fall flat at the box office. Anticipated to make big at theaters the sports drama drowned because of negative word of mouth. Boycott against Liger too played a major role in the failure. Vijay Deverakonda addressed the failure of Liger at South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA).

This sports drama pan-India film marked Vijay’s debut in Bollywood. Helmed by Puri Jagannadh Liger was a debacle earning a total of rs 88.4 crore worldwide. The Arjun Reddy actor was awarded the Youth icon of the year (Male) award During his award acceptance speech, Vijay evidently got emotional as he spoke about Liger and revealed that he didn’t even want to attend the award show 

Vijay said at the SIIMA 2022, “We all have good days. We all have not-so-good days. We all have sh**ty days. But irrespective of how we feel, we get up… And today I actually maybe didn’t want to be here taking this award, but I came here and as I speak to you, I promise to you that I will get the job done for all of you and you will be entertained. And great cinema will be made.”

Liger was released in theaters on 25th August and booked an early ticket to OTT. The sports drama Liger is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from September 22. Digitally it is available in four languages – Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil. 

Liger is the story of a Mumbai slumdog boy who aims to become a boxer. The Telugu star plays a titular role in the rags to riches story of the MMA champion. The movie marks the debut of Vijay in Bollywood and the first pan-India movie of Ananya Panday. 

The movie is written, directed, and co-produced by Puri Jagannadh. Karan Johar produced Liger under his Dharma production banner in association with Puri Jagannadh’s Puri Connects and Charmee Kaur. The movie was released in theaters on 25th August 2022. It is now available on Disney+ Hotstar from 22nd September.
