Actor Vidya Malavade began her acting career in 2003 with Vikram Bhatt’s film ‘Inteha’. However, her breakthrough film was the 2007 sports drama ‘Chak De India’. Vidya played the role of the captain of the hockey team in the film. Her performance and on-screen presence was highly appreciated by the audience and critics.
The success of ‘Chak De India’ was supposed to bring a positive change in Vidya’s career graph. However, it didn’t happen. After the box office success of Chak De India, Vidya was offered many exciting films. The actor even signed a few of them and was looking forward to a shining career. But the 2008 market crash crushed her expectations. Recalling that time, Vidya said, “I signed a few films right after Chak De. But the market crashed and either the films crashed or they didn’t start or got stalled. There was a lul for a while.”
She further told that despite this rough patch, she kept going. Vidya continued her career as a yoga teacher.
Vidya did a few films after ‘Chak De India’, but they didn’t perform well at the box office. Later, she explored the webspace and that has proved to be one of the best decisions of her life. Vidya has worked in 6 web shows so far including ‘Mismatched’, ‘Flesh’ and ‘Bamini and Boys’.
Vidya said, “But the great times started about 3-4 years ago when the web world opened up. And not just stars, but really good actors started getting their dues. They started getting really good work. So, I am just glad that I am one of them who got to play such diverse characters in the last 2-3 years.”
“And you’ll see around in every web series, you’ll find somebody or the other who is so outstanding would have never got their dues in the movies. And not just actors, the web-world has opened a plethora of opportunities for technicians as well,” she further added.
