Vidya Balan Starrer Shakuntala Devi Biopic To Release On OTT Platform On THIS Date

A couple of days back the makers of Vidya Balan and Sanya Malhotra starrer Shakuntala Devi: Human Computer had announced that the film will skip its theatrical release and will be directly released on an OTT platform. The decision was taken pertaining to the on-going pandemic situation.

The film is a biopic on late mathematical wizard Shakuntala Devi who was also known as ‘human computer’. However, the makers of the film have not yet announced the official release date on the OTT platform there have been speculations about the same. Some sources close to the development have revealed that the film will release on July 31, 2020, on streaming giant Amazon Prime.  The announcement regarding the same will be done soon.

Featuring National Award-winning actress Vidya Balan, the film is based on Shakuntala Devi’s life, nicknamed as the “human computer”, for her remarkable capacity to solve extremely complex calculations within seconds. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra, who will be seen playing the role of the daughter of Shakuntala Devi, with whom the genius enjoyed a complicated but extraordinary relationship.

Alongside Sanya Malhotra, the film also features Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta in pivotal roles. The film is helmed by Anu Menon and bankrolled by Sony Pictures Networks India and Vikram Malhotra under his banner Abundantia Entertainment.  

The other films to release on the OTT platform include Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Rajkumar Rao’s Ludo, and Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo.

Many filmmakers have postponed the release date of their films as the shooting has come to a screeching halt since March 2020. The Maharashtra Government has given permission to the makers to resume the shooting but they are meant to stick to the strict guideline issued by the authority.
