Vedaa: Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the much-awaited and highly anticipated Bollywood action thriller, “Vedaa” was finally released in the theatres on 15 August, coinciding with Independence Day. Upon its release, the film has now opened up to mixed reviews and reactions from moviegoers and critics. While some praised the film, others were seen criticizing the “weak storyline” and script. Vedaa explores deep-rooted social hierarchy and caste discrimination in rural Barmer, Rajasthan. The plot centers on a powerful village head who enforces strict caste laws. When a lower-caste boy falls for an upper-caste girl, it ignites a deadly conflict. Sharvari, a lower-caste girl aspiring to be a boxer, gains the support of ex-army officer Abhimanyu (John Abraham). But when her brother’s forbidden love affair disrupts the family, it triggers a violent clash.
Taking to Twitter/X, many early watchers and moviegoers shared their reviews and watching experiences. Sharing review a user wrote, “#VedaaReview – An action entertainer with a powerful meaning. #JohnAbraham delivered his career best performance. #Sharvari #AbhishekBanerjee) very good. Do watch it”.
Calling the film a “blockbuster” another user wrote, “#vedaareview is story driven movie,real #johnabraham is back with a bang,#tamannaabhatia as gorgeous as always,#sharvari shines,film bgm is great,villan #abhishekbanerjee created the impact ,director:#nikkhiladvani”.
However, some felt that the film had potential but failed to hit the mark due to a “weak script”, sharing the same a user wrote, “The film has what it takes to be a mass entertainer but had it been less preachy and stuck to the gangster drama plot without emotional tropes, it could have been more impactful. #Vedaa is having weak script and unnecessary twist”.
Criticizing the plot, another user wrote, “VEDAA – A regressive tale told in a retrograde narrative with illogical action scenes and ridiculous logic.. a B grade action film 1/5 VEDAA – WASTED !!”
