The lockdown imposed because of the coronavirus outbreak urged many filmmakers to release their movies digitally as the theatres across the nation remain shut. Since the Bollywood industry came to a halt in March, there have been several speculations that a few of the much-awaited films of 2020 will take an OTT route and skip the theatrical release.
Meanwhile, one of the streaming giants in India, Disney Plus Hotstar, will announce the number of Bollywood movies releasing on it in the coming few months. Today is the day when the announcement regarding the same will be shared. This has been confirmed by Disney Plus Hotstar itself.
The OTT platform shared an image mentioning that they will make the coveted announcement today at 4:30 PM IST in a star-studded online event. A picture of the stars who’ll attend the event was also published and these were Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, and Varun Dhawan.
As soon as the image was shared on the social media platforms, it raised many eyebrows especially the presence of Varun Dhawan in the photo. It led to speculations that Varun’s upcoming venture Coolie No.1 will also be released directly on the OTT platform.
Varun’s fans didn’t seem happy with the news as they want to enjoy the masala movie on the big screen. As past few films of Varun haven’t performed well at the Box Office, Coolie No.1 will kind of be a deal-breaker and fans wanted the actor back in the success streak league.

However, to Varun’s fans relief, some source has revealed that Coolie No.1 will not skip the theatrical release. It said, “As per the information that we have got, Coolie No 1 is not releasing on Disney+ Hotstar. Varun’s picture has been published alongside the others as he’s going to host the event.”
The source further added that as Coolie No.1 is helmed by Varun’s father David Dhawan who strongly believes in theatrical release, it is unlikely that the much-awaited venture will release digitally.
The source also mentioned that it isn’t aware if the makers of Coolie No.1 have made a deal for online release at the very last moment but that’s unlikely.
Coolie No.1 also features Sara Ali Khan alongside Varun Dhawan as the main lead.
The film releasing on Disney Plus Hotstar include Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride Of India, Alia Bhatt starrer Sadak 2, and Abhishek Bachchan starrer The Big Bull.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s last Bollywood venture Dil Bechara will also stream on the digital platform for free, to let millions of fans of the late actor enjoy his last presence on the screen.
