Varun Dhawan Gets Awarded For His Contribution During Lockdown

Varun Dhawan was recently honored for his contribution during the lockdown in 2020.

Newly-wed Varun Dhawan has another reason to celebrate as he was recently honored at the Sakal Sanman 2021 for his humanitarian efforts during the lockdown in 2020. When the country was under lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic, Varun Dhawan donated Rs 30 lakh to PM-CARES and Rs 25 lakh to Maharashtra CM relief fund. The actor also distributed free meals to the workers as well as healthcare staff leading the fight against the coronavirus.

The award ceremony was held in Mumbai to recognize the contribution of citizens during the lockdown. Actor turned politician Urmila Matondkar presented the award to Varun Dhawan. The function was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar among others.

Apart from Varun Dhawan, director Rohit Shetty was also honored for his contribution. He was among the first Bollywood celebrities to announce financial assistance to the underprivileged. He donated Rs 51 lakh to Federation of Western India Cine Employees to provide financial support to daily wage workers in the Hindi film industry. Later, he made food and stay arrangements across eight hotels in the city for the personnel of Mumbai Police.
