Legendary actor Raj Kapoor will soon mark his 100th birth anniversary this year. To celebrate this golden day and the old gem of the film industry, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has planned to premiere his his 1951 film ‘Awaara’. The film will be premiered in a 4k restored version at the festival as an honor to the traditional superstar of the cinema.

The news broke out on August 26, 2024 by The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC). The announcement was made on X, formerly Twitter that the event will take place on September 13,2024. Sharing a post on X, NFDC mentioned, “Get ready for the cinematic milestone! The world premiere of the 4K restoration of Raj Kapoor’s timeless classic ‘Awara’ is set to take place at the @TIFF_NET 2024, under the prestigious TIFF Classics section”

Awaara, starred Raj Kapoor and charismatic actress Nargis in the main roles. The film tends to be one of his iconic performances so far, and as his birth marks a century, it is an honor to be reliving the memories for everyone, regardless of them being a part of the industry. December 2024 will be marked as Raj Kapoor’s birth centenary, and this auspicious day will be re-lived in September 2024 itself.
For Awaara, not only did Kapoor perform as an actor, but also produced it. It is entirely a proud moment overall for the Kapoor family, as well as the Bollywood lovers as Toronto International Film Festival has chosen to restore the version of this movie. TIFF returns for its 49th edition and is expected to run from Sept’05 – Sept’15 this year. Special events and celebrations with some of the biggest names of the industry will take place on a global level. Certain news portals also reveal that Hollywood’s Angelina Jolie will also be honored during the festival.
