Through Uunchai Anupam Kher Wants To Tell The World Don’t Write Us Off

Anupam Kher spoke about Uunchai and playing an age-defined role, challenging the perception that 60 is an age to retire

Anupam Kher is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Uunchai. The tale of friendship is set to release in theaters on 11th November 2022. The film tells the story of three elderly friends on a trek to Mount Everest. During the promotions and interviews of the movie, Anupam Kher spoke about Uunchai and playing an age-defined role.

In his late 20’s the actor played a 65-year-old man in 1984’s Saaransh. He believes elderly characters are often stereotyped but he agreed to Uunchai because the film is about them and doesn’t “write us off.” Kher has a belief that age is just a number. Along with Anupam Kher, the movie also stars senior actors including Danny Denzogpa, Amitabh Bachchan, and Boman Irani.

In an interview with PTI, he said, “People usually say that if you cross 60 you don’t have possibilities. But that is not happening in Uunchai. It is not a serious film. It is about three believable people. My faith in this film is based on my own philosophy of life that — its people who decide you have become old. Here, we have the habit of calling uncle ji and aunty ji.”

He further added, “I was so happy because I wanted to tell the world — don’t write us off. I have been saying this for many years and that was the reason why I started working on myself and my body. I believe life starts post that and you discover new things to do. I have never made my parents feel redundant. My mother is 84 and I still learn so much from her knowledge of life.”

Uunchai story displays the friendship of three oldies Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Anupam Kher. The trio is on a mountaineering trek headed by a tour guide played by Parineeti Chopra. The film also features senior actor Danny Denzongpa, Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Nafisa Ali Sodhi.

Uunchai is helmed by Sooraj Barjatya under the banners of his home production Rajshri Films. Sooraj returns to directing films after a break of 7 years. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo starring Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor was his last directorial project. The three senior actors will go on a trek of Uunchai on 11th November 2022.
