Three individuals linked to a film theatre in Hyderabad were arrested on Sunday in relation to a case concerning the death of a woman who succumbed to asphyxiation amid the crowd surge during the premiere of actor Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” according to police reports.
A 35-year-old woman lost her life, and her eight-year-old son was hospitalized following an incident that occurred on the night of December 4, when many fans gathered at the Sandhya theatre to see the actor. The city police have filed a case against Allu Arjun, his security personnel, and the theatre management under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station, based on a complaint submitted by the family of the deceased.
On Sunday, the police arrested three individuals during the investigation: one of the theatre owners, the senior manager, and the person responsible for the lower balcony, as stated in a release from the Hyderabad Police. The police reported that a large audience had assembled at the theatre to view the film and have a glimpse of the movie’s lead actors coming to the theatre. However, there was no prior notification from either the theatre management or the actors’ team regarding their attendance at the venue.
The theatre management failed to implement any extra security measures to control the audience, nor did they establish a distinct entry or exit for the actors’ team, despite being informed of their arrival.
On December 4, at approximately 9:30 PM, Allu Arjun arrived at the theater accompanied by his personal security. A crowd of individuals present attempted to gain entry to the theater alongside him.
The personal security team of Allu Arjun began to push against the crowd, exacerbating an already tense situation due to the large number of people gathered at the theater. Seizing this opportunity, numerous individuals, alongside the actor and his security personnel, made their way into the lower balcony area.
Revathi and her son experienced a sense of suffocation due to the overwhelming number of people present. The police officers on duty promptly rescued them from the lower balcony and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to her son. They were then immediately shifted to a hospital, where the doctor informed that Revathi had passed away. The police further reported that the boy is currently receiving treatment at a Super Speciality Hospital.
