Tabassum Govil Dies Due To Cardiac Arrest, Bollywood Stars Pour Tribute To Veteran Actor

Tabassum Govil started her career as a child actor Baby Tabassum in 1947 and later she appeared in several television serials.

Veteran actor Tabassum Govil left the world at the age of 78 after suffering a cardiac arrest. The actress took her last breath on Friday, November 19, following two cardiac attacks. Tabassum had been admitted to a hospital for the past few days.

Govil’s son Hoshang Govil confirmed the demise of her mother and said to PTI that she had a ‘gastro problem’ due to which she was admitted to the hospital a few days ago. She died after having cardiac arrests back to back. Hoshang said to the outlet, “A few days ago, she was admitted to a hospital. She had a gastro problem and we went there for a check-up. She suffered two cardiac attacks at 8.40 pm and 8.42 pm. She passed away peacefully on Friday night.”

Tabassum was an Indian actress, talk show host and YouTuber. The actress started her career as child actor Baby Tabassum in 1947. She later appeared as the host of the first TV talk show on Indian television, Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. It ran on National broadcaster Doordarshan from 1972 to 1993, wherein she interviewed film and TV personalities. She famously appeared in several television serials. Just hours after it was revealed that veteran actress Tabassum passes away, several known entertainment personalities took to their social media and penned a heartfelt tribute.

Actress Twinkle Khanna took to her social media and shared a beautiful illustration of the late actress and penned, She was truly a legend. As a child, I used to watch Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan with Tabassum Ji as its spectacular host. I don’t remember her guests. Just her. With her nasal twang and the rose tucked behind her ear. All these blurry recollections wrapped around me like cashmere layers on a winter morning.

Singer Adnan Sami tweeted, “Saddened to learn the news that Tabassum Sahiba has passed away. We will never forget her adorable, smiling & signature style on Television that won our hearts. ‘Ab Jannat Ke Aur Bhi Phool Khilainge Gulshan Gulshan..'” Jaaved Jaaferi also dropped an emotional post on Twitter that read, “The pioneer of talk shows. An amazingly versatile and erudite lady who was active till the very end.”

He added, “A close friend of my father who started their careers together as child actors, our dearest Tabassum aunty passed on to her heavenly abode. May God have mercy on her soul.” TV actress Urvashi Dholakia shared a throwback picture of Tabassum Govil on Twitter and wrote, “Rest in Peace Tabassum ji our childhood would be incomplete had u not been there.”

Bollywood star Anupam Kher took to his official Twitter account and penned a note remembering the ‘jovial and wonderful’ actor and the great TV personality. The actor penned his tribute in Hindi which translates into, “Tabassum Ji was very jovial and a wonderful actress as well as a great television personality. I had the opportunity to participate in her famous Doordarshan program ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan.’ Will never be able to forget her smile. Her departure brings me immense sadness.”
