Taapsee Pannu speaks on pay disparity in Bollywood disclosing the budget of Shabaash Mithu

Bollywood skilled actress Taapsee Pannu has often stood for equal opportunities. She has also majorly done women-oriented films such as Rashmi Rocket, Thappad, Game Over, Pink, and more. Currently, her upcoming film is based on the life journey of a female cricketer Mithali Raj. The biographical movie starring Taapsee Pannu, in the role of an Indian cricketer, is titled ‘Shabaash Mithu’. The actress compared the movie’s entire budget to the salary of an A-lister actor.

The Haseen Dilruba actress got candid on the condition of heroines and actresses in films indicating disparity in the budget of actors. Taapsee, who never stays quiet in expressing her words, also spoke about her fight for equal opportunities in the industry. In a recent interview, the Naam Shabana actress revealed that the upcoming movie Shabaash Mithu is her big-budget movie. On the contrary, she also compared the budget to the salary of A-lister actors.

Talking to a media portal, Taapsee Pannu said: “Shabaash Mithu is my biggest budget film as a protagonist but still the budget of my entire film is equivalent to the budget of an A-lister (male actor)’s salary.”

She further explained: “And A-listers means I am talking about A-listers who are not at the top of the ladder. I am talking about those who are a little lower down the ladder. Their salary is the budget of my entire film. The situation is still like that. So there is still a long way for us to go.”

The actress added that she has moved in the right direction and surely things are changing for her. She mentioned:  “I am sure if this was 10-12 years ago, I wouldn’t have been sitting here and promoting a film like this. So, things have changed, but not anywhere it could be called equal.”

Coming over to Shabaash Mithu, it is Srijit Mukherjee’s directorial movie starring Taapsee in the biographical story of India’s women’s national cricket team captain Mithali Raj. The movie narrates the journey of a female cricketer towards her dream amidst a male-dominated sport. The unheard story of women in blue is produced by Viacom 18 and will release on July 12, 2022.
