Dobaaraa: After much buzz and boycott trends, Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap’s much-anticipated film Dobaaraa finally hit the theatres on Janmashtami, 19, August. Meanwhile, recently the actress opened up about the ongoing cancel culture aka the boycott trends, and said, “If something like this (boycott calls) happens on a daily basis, one ceases to be bothered anymore”.
Taapsee Pannu Breaks Silence On Boycott Trends
Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu who earlier grabbed the headlines after she asked the audience to boycott her film Dobaaraa recently broke her silence on films getting rejected due to the cancel culture. She said, that this ongoing boycott trend aka the cancel culture against Hindi films is nothing but a joke, which undermines the viewers.
During a press conference on Thursday, the actress said, “If something like this (boycott trends) happens on a daily basis, one ceases to be bothered anymore. It becomes useless. There is a dialogue to this effect in one of my films”. Calling the trend a “joke” she said, “I cannot talk about others in the industry, but for me and Anurag, it has become a joke,” she added.
Talking about how this trend is affecting the audience and the viewers, Taapsee said, “If the audience like they will go to watch a film. If they don’t like, they won’t. But giving the boycott call is like undermining my audience’s intelligence”.
Anurag Kashyap On Boycott Trends
Apart from Taapsee, Dobaaraa’s director Anurag Kashyap was also seen sharing his views on the viral boycott trends on social media, talking to Pinkvilla he said, “I am used to it. It affects those who’s films do over Rs. 100 crore. My films have not even gone beyond Rs. 32 crore. For me, it is nothing new. I have been boycotted since the time Twitter started. Ask me questions that affect me.”
Dobaaraa is a time travel thriller with a unique concept directed by Anurag Kashyap with Taapsee Pannu in the lead. The duo collaborates for the third time after 2018 hit Manmarziyaa and the 2019 biographical drama Saand Ki Aankh. It is a unique story of time travel and has been screened at London Film Festival & Fantasia Film Festival 2022. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Cult Movies which is a new wing of Balaji Telefilms. The movie has arrived in theaters on 19th August 2022.
