Why Did Sushmita Sen Choose To Be A Mother At Such A Young Age? The Actress Reveals!

The actress had adopted a girl child ‘Renee’ in 2000 when the actress was just 24 years old, and later adopted another girl child ‘Alisah’ in the year 2010.

When Sushmita Sen was crowned ‘Miss Universe’ in 1994 at the age of 18, she decided to embrace parenthood shortly, after 5 years of being a part of the industry. She had decided to become a mother and when she turned 24, the actress finally made an addition to her family.

“The night before I brought her home, I was throwing up all through the night – nervous as a bride. That night, I had decided I was going to be a mother – but I didn’t know-how. I kept asking how will I do this… Now, everything works” she said.

Sushmita Futter adds how she might have not birthed the girl child Renee, but she has been born from her heart. The actress mentions how Renee has and will always be her top priority,

“Tomorrow, or whenever I do choose to marry, Renee will always be my first child. She will take her place as the first of my children, the eldest of the siblings. And I’m not afraid of telling her that, unlike other children, she has been born from my heart” she tells.

Sharing why she took the bold step, broke stereotypes, and adopted a child, she mentions she hates it when people credit her for the noble act. She recalls how it’s an ‘insult’ to Renee when somebody says things like this.

“I hate it when people say, ‘What a noble thing she’s done. I haven’t done it to be noble. It’s an insult to Renee to say that. I have adopted her for myself. Because I’m selfish and wanted to enjoy motherhood. It’s a great experience and we are both enjoying it – Renee and me” she concludes.

Recently actress Swara Baskar shared how she wishes to adopt a child soon and even has started with the procedure for the same.

“In India, you don’t raise a child alone. There are a lot of support systems and structures that surround us. And that’s not a bad thing. Our families are structured in a way that actually enables women to have jobs and careers and be able to bring up the children if they can afford the help. Or if they can have the family support system, which I am lucky to have” she shared. Not just Sushmita and Swara, many actors and actresses from B Town in the past have adopted children and raised them as their own. Raveena Tandon, Mandira Bedi, Sunny Leone are a few names from the list.
