Sushant Singh Rajput Was To Play Indian Soldier In Film Rifleman

Sushant Singh Rajput was to play a brave Army soldier in his upcoming film titled 'Rifleman'. He had announced the project in 2019.

Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput was to play Indian soldier Jaswant Singh Rawat in his upcoming film titled Rifleman. On Army Day 2019, Sushant had made the announcement of the project on Twitter and wrote, “An advancing enemy. A border to protect. One Braveheart. #RIFLEMAN On the occasion of Army Day, excited to announce my next film.”

Who was Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat?

The film was to be based on the life of Jaswant Singh Rawat. He fought the battle of Nuranang and saved Arunachal Pradesh in 1962. He had single-handedly fought the Chinese Army and killed about 300 Chinese soldiers before attaining martyrdom. The brave soldier was honored with Mahavir Chakra. A memorial was built at a post where he bravely fought the PLA soldiers but lost his life. The interesting fact is that even after his death, he is awarded promotions as if he is still serving.

Soon after the film was announced on the brave soldier, it landed in a legal trouble. According to the reports, the makers had bought the rights from a family member and announced the film with Sushant in the leading role. And then, another family member came out and told that he had already sold the rights to another team who are ready with their project titled ’72 hours: Martyr Who Never Died’.

This trouble apparently halted the progress of the film. However, the makers refuted all such reports and said that they are working on the film. It would have been the first time to see Sushant donning the army uniform on-screen.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his apartment on June 14. His last film ‘Dil Bechara’ released in July this year on an OTT platform. The film was based on John Green’s novel ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ which was also converted into a Hollywood film with the same name.
