Sonu Nigam Mobbed At Airport After Receiving Padma Shri Award

Playback singer Sonu Nigam was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award last month for his contribution to the field of art. He has sung over 5000 songs in several languages, winning one National Award for the title track of Kal Ho Na Ho (2003). He has also released numerous albums and also appeared as a judge at several singing reality shows.

After receiving the prestigious award, Sonu Nigam made his first public appearance last night. He was spotted at the Mumbai airport as he arrived back in the city. While a bunch of shutterbugs were already stationed to click his pictures, several fans also jumped in to get clicked with the popular singer. One of the fans who reached out to Sonu for a selfie was politely asked by the singer to switch on the selfie mode. Sonu even helped his fan and then posed for a happy picture.

People started raising slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ as Sonu Nigam moved past the crowd. He was eventually escorted to his vehicle in the parking area.

While interacting with the paparazzi about his Padma Shri Award, he said, “I just want to say that it is a beautiful phase of a long journey. Although, I had stopped looking into this direction of awards, but I feel happy. My father is happy and I am going to meet him soon. I am humbled by this honour.”

Speaking of returning to Mumbai, he said, “I can’t live anywhere but Mumbai. It has given me so much. It is my motherland.”

He then added, “I also feel sad at the same time. Because I have lost my mother for the second time. Lata Ji was a mother figure to me.”
