Siddharth Malhotra was due to be launched by a different director and not Karan Johar in Student of the Year

Sidharth Malhotra was launched by Karan Johar in 2012 film Student of the Year. Since then he has delivered some great movies building his name in the industry. However, the actor was supposed to be launched by Anubhav Sinha and not Karan Johar. Student of the Year also starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt was not meant to be his debut film.

The actor who completed a decade in the industry revealed this news. Sidharth revealed that Dharma Productions Student of the Year was not his first film. He had auditioned for a film to be directed by Anubhav Sinha however, that got shelved. Article 15 director Anubhav Sinha was supposed to launch two more actors with him.

Before landing a role in his debut film, Sidharth worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar on the 2010 film My Name Is Khan. In a recent interview, the Shershah actor was questioned if Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion which features Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut was supposed to be his debut film. The actor denied the reports stating his debut film got shelved.

Sidharth said, “The film wasn’t Fashion, but Anubhav Sinha was the director who was supposed to launch me and two other actors. That was a film I auditioned for in New Delhi, and I had flown to Bombay to audition again. So a couple of rounds of audition and they said that we will train. At that time, Adlabs Studio was there, and they were pumping in money to launch actors and new talent. So it was a very great initiative. It took eight months to a year, but for various reasons, it never took off.”

Later asked if since then he communicated with Anubhav Sinha about a potential collaboration. He said, “I have not met him. I have not spoken to him after that. I’ve seen his films recently. He met me when I was an AD on My Name Is Khan, because he had come to meet Shah Rukh sir, but we haven’t met in recent times for a feature as yet. So maybe, let’s see.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Sidharth Malhotra has Rohit Shetty’s series in the pipeline. He will share the screen with Shilpa Shetty in Police Force directed by Rohit Shetty. The actor will be next seen in Thank God alongside Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh. He also has Yodha with Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the kitty.
