Actor Sidharth Malhotra has left everyone mesmerized with his performance in the latest film titled ‘Shershaah’. He looks convincing as he brings Captain Vikram Batra to life on-screen. While he made everyone emotional this Independence Day with his film, he took out some time and visited National War Memorial in New Delhi and paid his respects to the Kargil Hero. He then also shared a picture of Captain Vikram Batra’s hand-written letter to his family while he was at war. The letter is dated 23 June 1999. It was just 15 days before Captain Vikram Batra sacrificed his life for the nation.
In the letter, the soldier had written, “I am writing you this letter from pt. 5140 which you might be hearing about everyday in the news. Yeah, you’ll be proud to know that we have captured it. Lt. Jamwal (you met at Shimla) and I had gone to attack it and we captured it on the 20th killing the Pakis. Whole battalion is very happy on our performance. We both have been recommended for Mahavir Chakra for this task. And I have also picked up the rank of Captain.”
He further wrote, “Don’t know about leave plans. Do give a call to Dimple and tell her about me that I am fine and tell about my achievement also.”
Concluding his letter, he wrote, “Do reply soon. I am sitting at a height of 17,200 ft. Sorry for handwriting, it is very cold here.”

Sharing this letter of Vikram Batra on his Instagram, actor Sidharth Malhotra wrote in the caption, “The warmth and fondness with which he writes to his loved ones… while at war! That’s the extraordinary mettle a soldier is made of. When I read this letter… I could see Vikram in front of my eyes! Smiling, as he writes… with bombs dropping in the background. Like he found a quiet corner to take time out. But when he’ll go back to work, it’s lethal… he’s going to fight for his country… until his last breath. But there isn’t just one Vikram. In Kargil alone, we lost 527 Vikrams. They lived life – Yeh Dil Maange More! Let’s fill our hearts with pride as we remember every sainik today. Happy 75th Independence Day.”
