Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is set to direct a musical feature film ‘Ebony McQueen’, starring Sharon D Clarke, Avantika and Thomas Smith in the lead roles. The music of this semi-autobiographical film will be scored by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, while songs are being done by Dave Stewart, who is a co-writer as well as a co-producer on this film, which is set to go on floors in 2025.
Drawing inspiration from Stewart’s early life, the Shekhar Kapur directorial revolves around the main character, Charlie McGarvey, who dreams of being a pro footballer, but his hopes are shattered after a devastating injury. The story delves into how he discovers the magic of creating music, which leads him on a journey that awakens the ability to fully pursue what he loves, despite the world falling apart around him.
Shekhar Kapur is currently working in India as well as internationally, establishing him as the most in-demand filmmaker across the globe. His films ‘Bandit Queen’, ‘Elizabeth’ or 2022 film ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ and many more have proven him as a filmmaker to look up to with several prominent awards such as BAFTA award and National Film Award to his credit.
