Shatrughan Sinha, a legendary actor with a rich legacy, continues to captivate audiences with his timeless dialogues and unforgettable performances. Beyond his impeccable acting and reigning political career, the actor has often made headlines for his personal life. One such chapter was his rumored affair with actress Reena Roy, which coincided with his marriage to Poonam Chandiramani. Shatrughan Sinha about managing two relationships was candidly discussed during a recent interview with Lehren Retro.

Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy starred first in the film Kalicharan (1976), a milestone movie in his career. The duo’s on-screen chemistry in hits like Milap, Sangram, Sat Sri Akal and Chor Ho To Aisa fueled rumours of a romance off-screen. In his recent conversation, Shatrughan opened up about this complex phase in his life, acknowledging his mistakes and the lessons learned along the way.

When the senior most journalist Bharathi S. Pradhan asked him, “A man who has two women in his life is considered lucky, but he also has to deal with problems. How do you reflect on that phase of your life where you had Reena Roy and Poonam in your life?” The actor put up things straight by simply responding, “Main kisika naam nahi lunga, because I am very grateful to all the women who’ve been in my life. Main unka bahut hi ehsaan mandh hu, kyunki sabse kuch seekhne ko mila hai.”

He emphasized that he harbours no ill feelings towards any women he has been with and he further acknowledged how coming from a small city like Patna to the glitz and glamour of the film industry was overwhelming, leading to moments he wasn’t prepared to handle.

Shatrughan Sinha admitted that juggling multiple commitments can take a toll on anyone’s mental and physical well-being, including himself. He shared, “Agar aadmi acha ho, agar acha ho! Achhai pe isliye zor diya maine ki 2-3 jagah uska kahi commitment chal raha hai… aur ek jagah vo bahut hi committed ho toh uske liye bhi bahut dikkat hoti hai…” but why? Further he credited his wife Poonam for bringing balance to his life during these turbulent times, acknowledging her role in helping him overcome his missteps, which eventually led to a stable family life.

Despite the challenges, Shatrughan and Poonam built a strong family foundation, welcoming twins Luv and Khush in 1983 and their daughter Sonakshi in 1987. On the other hand, Reena Roy moved on and married former Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan in 1983, although their marriage ended in 1992. Reena chose to remain single after that.

Shatrughan Sinha’s journey reflects the complexities of life, love and stardom. His openness about his mistakes serves as a reminder that even legends face struggles and learn from them.
