Shamshera Hits Theatres: “It’s Kapoor Day” Says Alia Bhatt

Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor starrer Shamshera: Karam Se Dacait…Dharma Se Azad hits theatres on Friday.

Shamshera is a period action film directed and produced by Karan Malhotra and Aditya Chopra respectively. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Ashutosh Rana, Saurabh Shukla, Tridha Choudhary, and Pitobash Tripathy. In May 2018, Yash Raj Films officially launched Shamshera through motion poster.

Ranbir Kapoor plays a double role in the film as Shamshera and Balli while Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor will be seen as Daroga Shuddh Singh and Sona respectively. The duration of the film is 159 minutes.

The film has an investment of overall150 crores which includes 80 crores for production cost and 62 crores for salaries while 8 crores for prints and advertising. Shamshera collected 10.30 crore on its first day. In India, the film releases on 4350 screens whereas 1200 are overseas with a total of 5550 screens worldwide. It is the highest screen count for a Bollywood film post-pandemic.

Shamshera is Ranbir’s arrival on the silver screen after 4 years of ‘Sanju’ which was released in 2018. The film is the 5th highest opener of Ranbir Kapoor’s career.

Meanwhile, Tarah Adarsh, a film analyst took his Instagram to review the film. He gave a one-word review for the movie, called it “UNBEARABLE” and rated it ½. He wrote, “Brings back memories of Thugs of Hindostan… Even Ranbir Kapoor’s star-power cannot save this ship from sinking… EPIC DISAPPOINTMENT.”

Earlier, Yash Raj Films released the trailer of the film which crossed more than 100M views. The trailer got impressive responses and love comments from Ranbir’s fans.

On the premiere day of Shamshera, mom-to-be Alia Bhatt took her Instagram to show excitement for her husband’s Shamshera. Alia Bhatt posted a photo wearing a blue sweatshirt with ‘Kapoor’ written on it and captioned the photo which read, “It’s Kapoor Day!” Aside from this, Sanjay Dutt also shared Shamshera’s poster on the release day and penned, “Time has come, to witness the legend!”.
