Shahrukh Khan Promotes Fairness Cream, Daughter Defends Dark Skin Tone

After Suhana Khan made a post against colorism, people called out her father Shahrukh Khan who has been promoting fairness cream for years.

Time and again, the celebrities have been called out for endorsing fairness creams and thus promoting the idea that it is better to have a fair skin tone. Shahrukh Khan has been promoting fairness cream for the last many years. However, on the other hand, his daughter Suhana Khan demands the end of colorism.

She posted on her social media handle, “I have been told I am ugly because of my skin tone, by full grown men and women, since I was 12 years old. Other than the fact that these are actual adults, what’s sad is that we are all Indian, which automatically makes us brown – yes we come in different shades but no matter how much you try to distance yourself from the melanin, you just can’t. Hating on your own people just means that you are painfully insecure.”

While she was applauded by people for speaking up for the right thing, some called out the hypocrisy of their family.

Twitter calls out the hypocrisy:

A Twitter user wrote, “While I wholeheartedly agree with what Suhana Khan has said, End Colourism should start from home. You can’t complain to the society about the obsession your dad has been promoting for years!! If this doesn’t expose the morals, or the lack thereof, in the film industry!!”

Another user wrote, “Well said Suhana Khan Dark skin is not a badge of shame but rather a glorious masterpiece ..but shouldn’t u be penning a note to your dad too to End Colourism..coz he is the one promoting skin whiteners. To hell with such colour prejudices. So practice what you preach.”

Well, endorsing a brand is a choice. Many celebrities like Radhika Apte, Abhay Deol and others have always condemned the promotion of fairness creams and have kept themselves away from it. However, many celebs out there do it for money irrespective of the message it gives out to their fans.
