Sara Ali Khan Turns Freedom Fighter In Amazon’s Thriller ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’

Inspired by true events, the thriller drama is directed by Kannan Iyer and produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta.

Sara Ali Khan has turned freedom fighter in Amazon original movie ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’. The makers made the official announcement by unveiling the first teaser of the film. 

The film is set against the backdrop of the Quit India Movement in 1942. Sharing the video on Instagram, film’s producer Karan Johar wrote, ” an ode to the unsung heroes. an ode to India’s freedom struggle #AeWatanMereWatan, new Amazon Original Movie – now filming! #AeWatanMereWatanOnPrime.”

The short teaser introduces Sara Ali Khan as a brave young freedom fighter who is organizing an underground radio station against Britishers in 1942, Bombay. The fearless young woman is heard claiming that “Britishers can’t stop us from raising our voice. This is India’s voice”.  

Reportedly, Sara’s character is based on Usha Mehta, who was a Gandhian and freedom fighter of India. She organized the underground Congress Radio Station during the few months of 1942 Quit India Movement. 

‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ will be helmed by Kannan Iyer, who has previously directed critically acclaimed supernatural thriller ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ (2013).

Backed by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra, the thriller drama will have direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video.

Meanwhile, Sara Ali Khan was last seen in Anand L. Rai’s Atrangi Re (2021) where she shared a screen space with Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. Apart from  ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ the actress will also be seen in Laxman Utekar’s upcoming untitled directorial venture.
