Oscar winning singer and music composer AR Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum has passed away. The singer confirmed the news by posting a picture of her on Twitter. According to the reports, she was ill for quite some time now.
Singer Shreya Ghoshal shared her condolences as she wrote, “Deeply saddened by this news Rahman sir. She was one of the most gentle affectionate person I have met. Praying for her departed soul.”
AR Rahman was very close to his mother. It was his mother who had predicted that he would build his career in music and even motivated him from quite a young age. AR Rahman’s father RK Shekar was a music conductor who passed away when he was just nine years old. For five years after his father’s death, his mother used to rent out his father’s musical equipment to make a living. But when she was asked to sell the equipment to make money, she refused to do so and said that her son would take care of the musical equipment. And that is how AR Rahman took his first step into the world of music.
