Richa Chadha, the versatile actor of Bollywood is coming up with a biopic of South Indian actress Shakeela. Shakeela debuted in the film Playgirls in 1995 at the age of 16 as a supporting actress. Despite hailing from a conservative Muslim family, she entered the glamour industry and gave bold performances.
She appeared in about 250 films, most of them were B-grade which made her a major sex symbol of 90s. She has done films in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Odia and Telugu cinema. Shakeela made headlines when she did some controversial topless scenes. Over the time, she became so popular that her films were dubbed and released in almost all Indian languages and even in some foreign languages like Nepalese and Chinese. In 2002, Shakeela announced that she will no longer do B-grade films.
A biopic on her life full of rollercoasters in soon going to release. Richa Chadha will be seen playing Shakeela and will ace her bold avatar for the film. The upcoming film will trace Shakeela’s journey which is filled with hurdles and discrimination. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Malayalam star Rajeev Pillai. The film will be released n Christmas this year.
