Rhea Kapoor is often typecast for producing women-centric films. So far she has made films such as Aisha, Veere Di Wedding, and Khoobsurat. Rhea took to her Instagram stories expressing disappointment with the regular use of the word women-centric and questioned if there is a term men-centric.
Rhea, who is also owner of a fashion label called Rheson founded in collaboration with her sister Sonam Kapoor, has been trolled for making films around women. Portraying strong women in movies in the partially male-dominated industry, furious Rhea Kapoor called for those tagging her films women-centric.
She uploaded a story on her Instagram and wrote, “What the fuck is a ‘woman-centric’ film? Can someone tell me? Can someone announce a ‘man-centric’ one soon? or is that just a given?” She further went on to add, “I’m not interested in making ‘woman-centric’ films. My films just happen to have women in them. I think they are braver and more fun. Also heroes are just too sensitive and emotional. Too much chik-chik. Na?”
Rhea Kapoor has received rave comments, while one supported her the other trolled. One said: “We need more filmmakers like her!! More women in film industry need to speak up” while another questioned, “Haven’t you made women centric only so far.” She is also lashed out for making films with Sonam as netizens tagged her saying “Sorry Sonam-centric films autocorrect ho gaya.”
Rhea is the daughter of Anil Kapoor, she started her career as a producer with the 2010 film Aisha starring her sister Sonam Kapoor. She is now in the process of making two films again having a woman as the lead. One untitled film is said to have Kareena Kapoor Khan and it is definitely not Veere Di Wedding 2. Another film in her kitty will star Shehnaaz Gill, Bhumi Pednekar, and Anil Kapoor.
