A couple of days back actor Ranveer Singh took to his Twitter to share the news that, the Kabir Khan directed ’83 has been indefinitely postponed amidst the novel coronavirus scare. He further added that the filmmakers will announce the new release date once the things get back to normal.
Meanwhile, the sources close to the film revealed that the makers of the film are planning to release the film on 25th June 2020.
For the unversed, 25th June is a special day in the Indian cricket history, as that is when India lifted their maiden World Cup trophy back in 1983 by defeating the West Indies cricket team at Lords. This indeed seems like the best occasion to re-live the historic moment.
The source further added that this is just a back-up plan at the moment and everything will be reanalyzed in May. The sources further added, “The health scenario of the nation lies above film and its release, and the makers will announce a date only when there is absolute safety for the viewers to visit the cinema halls. Be assured, it wouldn’t release if there is even 1% scare among the audience, as the idea is to get the entire nation to the cinema hall to revisit the iconic day of Indian cricket.”
The reports also state that the makers are also considering 15th August for releasing the film. “That’s an option for an extreme scenario, but they are optimistic that things would be back to normal by summer end. Await and watch scenario is being adopted for now, with a team keeping an eye on the on-ground scenario”, added the source.
In the Kabir Khan directorial, Ranveer Singh will essay the role of Kapil Dev while Deepika will play his on-screen wife, Romi Dev.
The film is currently in the post-production stage and the makers are currently focusing to lock the final edit of the movie. The films first-look poster has been appreciated by everyone and now everyone is in anticipation to see the movie on the big-screen.
