A day before the release of Raksha Bandhan Bhumi Pednekar reacted to the boycott trend and the cancel culture in Bollywood

Bhumi Pednekar is gearing up for the release of her upcoming movie Raksha Bandhan. She has been starred opposite Akshay Kumar in the story that narrates the bond between a brother and his four sisters. After netizens urged to boycott Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan also faced the wrath. Bhumi Pednekar who is the lead actress in the film reacted to the boycott trend and the cancel culture in Bollywood. 

Days before the release of Raksha Bandhan the movie was linked to a boycott trend on Twitter. Hashtag boycott Raksha Bandhan went viral on social media. Earlier Akshay Kumar spoke on the trend after Aamir khan requested audience to watch his film Laal Singh Chaddha instead of boycotting it. And now Bhumi Pednekar stood up against the boycott trend and the cancel culture in Bollywood.

In an interview with India Today, the Badhai Do actress said, She said, “It is definitely very rampant, but you know we have to acknowledge the fact that the internet, where, cancel culture thrives is a democratic space that has a lot of freedom. There will be good opinions and there will be bad opinions. The way I deal with it is I only take the positivity in. I mean, I don’t understand that you know things that people can’t accept. I find it a little bizarre, but I’m just hoping this is a phase, but why don’t we also look at the non-cancel culture that exists? There’s also so much love we get on the internet. There’s so much love that we get from everywhere.”

Raksha Bandhan is a family drama that revolves around a family of four sisters and one brother. The story not only highlights the dowry culture in Indian society but brings out a solution too. The movie helmed by Anand L Rai stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles. It is produced by Zee Studios, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape Of Good Films. The movie is arriving in theaters on the occasion of the Indian festival Raksha Bandhan on 11th August 2022.
