The veteran star Raj Babbar’s interfaith marriage to a Muslim woman Nadira Zaheer, showcases love and cultural harmony. Before establishing himself in Bollywood, the Punjabi-Hindu actor was already married to Nadira who was four years older than him. This decision faced resistance from Raj Babbar’s family, as they wanted Nadira to convert to Hinduism and change her name. However, Raj Babbar stood firm o his words that Nadira will not convert, where his father also supported his decision.

In an exclusive interview with Lehren Retro, the Bollywood couple’s eldest daughter Juhi Babbar shared some rare insights into their family’s inclusive traditions. The actress went on to talk about how despite initial challenges, the Babbar family created a harmonious environment where festivals from all religions are celebrated with same enthusiasm

When asked about their lifestyle, Juhi humorously remarked, “Hum har tarah se symbol hai, hum pratik hai Bharatiyata ke. Ab hum wait kar rahe hai ki humare ghar mein koi Christian ladki aa jaye, kyuki humare yaha pe sab hai. Sarv dharma hai humlog! (We are symbols of Indian diversity. Now we are waiting for a Christian girl to join our family because we have everything else. We represent all religions!).”

Juhi Babbar: ‘Hum Diwali, Eid dono Josh se manaate hai!’

Juhi elaborated on the unique upbringing she experienced. “We celebrate Diwali and Eid with equal enthusiasm. There’s no festival where both parents aren’t present,” she said, talking about togetherness in their household. Juhi also mentioned that while her family isn’t strictly religious, they are deeply connected to their cultural roots.

Juhi also fondly spoke about her maternal grandparents Sajjad Zaheer and Razia Sajjad Zaheer, describing them as culturally grounded. Though they didn’t adhere to strict religious practices they viewed festivals like Eid as opportunities for communal joy and cultural expression.
