R Madhavan Comments On Bollywood Vs South Debate – If RRR Was Hit So Was Kashmir Files

R Madhavan shared his thoughts on South movies overpowering Bollywood

R Madhavan has created a name in both the Hindi film industry as well as in the South film industry. He debuted in Bollywood with a movie titled ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’, and further acted in films such as 3 idiots, Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar, Tanu Weds Manu, 13 B, Jodi Breakers, and more. Whereas in South films he featured in Maara, Vikram Vedha, Aarya, and Vettai among others.

The actor is currently engaged in promoting his upcoming movie ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ which is also his directorial debut. The subject of south movies overpowering Bollywood came to light with the booming success of pan-India movies RRR, KGF 2, and Pushpa. R Madhavan has joined many actors from both industries who have shared their thoughts on the highly discussed Bollywood vs South debate. The actor famously known as Maddy has also entered the panel sharing his view on the topic.

Madhavan said, “The truth of the matter is Baahubali 1 and 2, RRR, KGF 1 and 2, and Pushpa are the pan-India films that have managed to earn more than Hindi films. The reasons could be many – perhaps because these films had a fan following all over the country or perhaps because they were all made on a big scale.”

He further stated that pan-India films’ success didn’t vandalize Hindi movies. Maddy explained, “The success of these films doesn’t mean that Hindi films haven’t succeeded. Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 have all worked at the box office. It’s not even like these films were small hits, they were all big hits.”

He also believed Covid has changed the audience’s perspective towards films. He said, “You could say that audience habits have changed post-COVID. A film’s script has to be COVID proof. I feel that after the pandemic, people’s patience has lessened. The pacing of the story within the screenplay needs to be brisk. Perhaps the Hindi films that didn’t succeed didn’t have the racy screenplays that convince the viewer that the story and drama is progressing at a good speed.”

He suggested, “All the films that have succeeded have had their actors put in a lot of hard work. In RRR it was NTR Jr and Ram Charan’s efforts that impressed, in Pushpa, Allu Arjun did a phenomenal job balancing his dancing with his character’s looks and quirks. I feel the audience is able to appreciate the efforts that these actors have put in while their films have taken years and not months to put together.”

Madhavan further added: “Frankly, it’s useless to analyze these things. The only rule in the film industry is that the day you think there are rules in the film industry, you’ve lost it. Showbiz has an ever changing scenario. I will hope that in the coming days other films will do well and set a new pattern to follow. I don’t think we can actually predict anything when it comes to our film industry.”
