Pushkar-Gayathri Claims Vikram Vedha Is Not Remake Of Tamil Film

Vikram Vedha directors Pushkar and Gayathri claim that the new Hindi version is not a copy of the Tamil film but it is completely different.

The much-awaited film of the year Vikram Vedha is set to hit theaters on 30th September 2022. Quite before the release the Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan starrer generated a buzz. The action thriller film is a remake of the 2017 Tamil film in the same name. However, directors Pushkar and Gayathri claim that the new Hindi version is not a copy of the Tamil film but it is completely different.

The husband-wife director duo Pushkar-Gayathri helmed the original film and now they have directed the remake as well. Ahead of the release, the director said that the story is fresh and different. Just the name is similar but the two movies have no comparisons. In a recent interview, the director spoke on the similarities between the Tamil and Hindi movies Vikram Vedha.

Speaking of directing the same story, Pushkar said, “Take a play like Streetcar Named Desire or Death of a Salesman. It has been staged hundreds of times all over the world. The text remains the same. But you bring in a fresh set of actors when a production changes. We approached the idea of doing Vikram Vedha the same way. The text is the same, what we had written long back. When Saif and Hrithik come on board, they are bringing what an actor and the written word together form into a character on screen.”

Gayathri added, “We never felt like we were recreating a scene. We had long discussions on sets on how to do this scene or that scene. And not once did we think of doing it the way it was earlier. The soul is the same but it’s completely different.”

Lead actor Hrithik Roshan too added his thoughts, saying, “There were times when we got stuck in a scene. We wondered how we could get from this beat to that one. The movie has already been made. We could easily have gone back to it and seen how they did it there and done the same. But that’s not how we were approaching it. We were trying to portray Vikram as Saif has played him and Vedha as I have played him. We were actually creating new, not recreating.”

Vikram Vedha is a Hindi remake of the Tamil movie of the same name. The original film featured R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupati in the lead role who are replaced by Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan respectively. The film also stars Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf, Satyadeep Misra, and Sharib Hashmi. Helmed by the duo Pushkar-Gayatri the action crime film is produced by Chakravarthy Ramachandra, Bhushan Kumar, S. Sashikanth, and Vivek Agrawal. The film will end the wait on September 30, 2022, releasing on big screens.
