Priyanka Chopra Among Others Slam Perfume Ad For Promoting R*pe Culture

Priyanka Chopra, and Hrithik Roshan among other Bollywood celebrities slams perfume advertisement calling it 'Appalling' on promoting rape culture.

Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan among many other known celebrities recently raised their voice over a perfume advertisement promoting rape culture. Apparently, the perfume ad has sparked outrage among the audience and the Bollywood industry while inadvertently capitalizing on woman’s fear.

Bollywood Celebrities Slam The Perfume Advertisement

Bollywood actors like Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, and Swara Bhasker, among others, have criticized the commercial. While the Citadel actress replied to Richa’s tweet addressing the ad in which she wrote, “This ad is not an accident. To make an ad, a brand goes through several layers of decision making. Creatives, script, agency, client, casting… DOES EVERYONE THINK RAPE IS A JOKE? Revelatory! This brand, the agency that made this ad need to be sued for the filth they’re serving.”

Priyanka replied to Richa’s tweet as she wrote, “Shameful and disgusting. How many levels of clearances did it take for this commercial to be green lit. How many people thought this was ok? I’m so glad that it was called out and now the ministry has taken it down. Appalling!”

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan shared a picture on Instagram expressing his shock at the commercial and wondered how the team associated with the ad think it was okay. Actor Farhan Khan also reacted to the same as he wrote, “What incredibly tasteless and twisted minds it must take to think up, approve and create these stinking body spray ‘gang rape’ innuendo ads..!! Shameful.” Swara Bhaskar took to her Instagram stories and wrote, “So we’re making jokes about gang rape now?”

The perfume advertisement features a couple having a private moment in a room when four men come and request a shot.’ The girl is at the store with her boyfriend in another ad when the same men enter, and the cycle repeats. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has ordered the suspension of the advertisement, according to news agency ANI. An inquiry has also been initiated.
