Actor and singer Raghubir Yadav has been entertaining the Indian audience for over 35 years. He, who started his career with films like ‘Massey Sahib’ and ‘Salaam Bombay’ has played interesting and inspiring innings in Bollywood. The Madhya Pradesh-born actor made his Television debut with ‘Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne’ in 1988, in which he played the lead character “Mungerilal”. 32 years later, he again took over our screens by playing the iconic Pradhan Ji in the latest web series ‘Panchayat’. The talented actor has always stayed relevant, credit goes to his theatre experience.

Raghubir was interested in the field of cinema and music since childhood. He went against his family to follow his passion. In an interview with us, Raghubir once recalled how people used to think that he’ll walk the wrong path and malign the family’s name.

Raghubir told in an interview during the early 2000s, “People initially used to say, ‘Ye Bhagoda hai, ghar se bhaag gaya hai.’ They thought I’ll be an ‘Aawara’ and that I might not come back home ever. They thought that I’ll destroy my family’s name and fame. But such things are often said for people who leave their homes. I always used to be a part of singing and music groups. So people never took me seriously and thought that I’ll become a thief or something. And thus, people had various kinds of negative thoughts about me. When I was a nobody in the industry and used to go to my home, people used to look at me with doubts in their heads. They never trusted my words. And then, I also had to lie sometimes because they didn’t understand most of the things. When I told them that I do theatre, they didn’t know what a theatre was. And when I explained to them that it means ‘Naatak’, they taunted me saying ‘Acha, ye naatakbaazi karta hai vahan’!”

“So, when Television came, they didn’t know that either. I explained that it is a radio with visuals. But when the television reached my village, they saw that I was not on it. During that time, I was still in theatre and hadn’t achieved much in my career in Delhi. And so, I did an ad for Sahani tyres only because I wanted to show my family that I am doing something on Television. So, when I did that ad, I wrote a letter to my family and told them about it,” he added.

Taling about how their perception changed, Raghubir said, “Later, when I started doing films, they began to trust me and felt happy about my choices. People now say, ‘We knew that he would achieve something’. So, you see, how their thoughts and words have changed. Initially, they said something else, and now it is totally different.”

Raghubir Yadav was last seen in TVF’s web series ‘Panchayat’. It is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
