Om Raut Reacts To Facing Criticism On Ravan’s Portrayal In Adpiurush

Adipurush: On 2nd October the makers of Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush unveiled the teaser and the first poster of their film in Ayodhya. However, just a few hours after the release of the much-anticipated teaser the netizens began criticizing the film for Saif Ali Khan’s Islamic look and unconvincing VFX. While in a recent interview, Adipurush’s director Om Raut opened up about facing criticism on Ravan’s portrayal in the film, defending his film he said, “We have not done anything wrong in this film. People are getting a few things wrong here.”

In a recent interview with India Today, Adipurush director Om Raut was seen getting candid about facing criticism for his film. He said, “We have not done anything wrong in this film. People are getting a few things wrong here. With this film, we want to introduce the story of Lord Ram to the world. We want to spread his teachings among the youth. If we represent it in a way through which we can reach the new generation, then only we can talk to the new generation. Is there any less belief in this because of this? No. We have maintained the sanctity of everything.”

Addressing the criticism over Ravan’s character in the film Om Raut said, “The Ravana that we saw earlier was an artistic representation of the evil that Ravana was. My Ravana is demonic too, but in today’s time, if I picturise Ravana like this, then that is it. If you say, that I have changed his colour, then I disagree. It’s the same colour, it’s the colour of religion.”

Despite receiving criticism and boycott calls Om Raut says that he won’t disappoint the audience, he added, “We are noting everything that is being said about the film. But when the film will release in January, I will not disappoint anyone.”

Why Is Adipurush Facing Backlash?

Apparently, Adipurush’s teaser turned out to be a big “disappointment” for many fans. Following the same, the netizens recently started a #disappointing trend against the film on Twitter. After facing the backlash, the film also became a target of the viral “Boycott” trend as well. While it is believed that the reason behind the boycott trend against the film is due to the unconvincing VFX and Saif Ali Khan’s Islamic look in the film. A ban was also demanded by the Ayodhya Ram temple’s chief priest Satyendra Das.

The film stars Baahubali actor Prabhas with Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. Made on a budget of Rs 500 crore, Adipurush is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. It is scheduled to release in theatres on 12 Jan 2023.
