Nushrratt Bharuccha is one of the actresses from Bollywood, who has made her name by herself. Coming from a humble background and more so, a very conventional family, Nushrat’s dedication towards her work speaks for itself. Despite having a bright career, the actress has admitted to having been a victim of depression.
She shared how the process was not easy, and if it wasn’t for her family and loved ones’ support, it would’ve become more difficult for her. “I feel there are people, friends and family around me who can be quietly present with you in your silence. There was only one voice in me that I would overcome this. Had he not been there, it would have been a serious problem. I believed that things would get better the next day. Keeping that faith, I will go ahead throughout the day” she shared.
Coming from a very conventional family, Nushratt had earlier also revealed how her parents were not happy with her decision of joining the glamourous world of the film industry. Despite that, her parents were quite supportive, as she shared how her father almost cried after seeing one of her interviews, where she had revealed about her depression.
“My father saw that interview the night it came out and when I came home, he started crying and told me, ‘I never knew you went through all this’. So when I say that I really didn’t let them get affected by my absolute lows, I really meant it. But with family, there’s a thing that they can sense it. I might not tell them but they could always guess something’s not right with me.”
Her mother had said, “Of course, but we don’t say anything. We just leave it at that because we don’t want to pressurise her, but just let her be.” Nushrratt further added, “In those days, for me, the only thing that really kept me going was the fact that I would wake up to them and my normal simple life has been my grounding.”
After some flops, Nushrratt was glad to experience the spotlight that she started recently after Pyaar ka punchnama 2, and more so, after ‘Sonu ki titu ki sweety’. “Now I know what the true meaning of success is… photographers following your car, fans chasing you for selfies and autographs… It’s uncanny,” she shared as she accepted of enjoying every bit of it.
“After SKTKS, the popularity and acceptance have reached another level. I feel part of the film fraternity now,” she said. “Earlier people used to say you are not heroine material. You can only play a friend’s role. Someone in my family even remarks’ You can’t be a heroine because you don’t have almond eyes,” she laughs at the memory. But then who can overwrite the blueprint of destiny?” she added.
