Pakistani-Canadian actress Iman Vellani has bagged the lead role in Marvel Studios’ new series “Ms Marvel.” Marvel Studios introduced a new character, the first-ever Pakistani female superhero–Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel, played by Iman. The series also stars Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar and Fawad Khan. “Ms Marvel” a Marvel Studios series on Pakistani-American teen superhero, started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on June 8.
Farhan Akhtar made his Hollywood debut with a cameo role in the Disney+ series “Ms Marvel”. The young actress is an ultimate Bollywood fan, stating ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ are her favourite movies. She shared her experience of working with Farhan Akhtar, who she admired since her childhood watching him as an actor in “Rock On” to directing Dil Chahta Hai.”
Debutante Vellani said: “My experience working with Farhan was amazing, he has so many stories to share. On set, we’d have quiet moments, and he would just be telling me stories about going sky-diving, what it’s like filming other movies and his career in general. I find him such a fascinating person to listen to and he looks so cool in our show. It’s crazy that I grew up watching him, and now I am working with him,”
Earlier before the release Indian filmmaker and director Farhan penned a gratifying note thanking the makers of the Marvel series and appreciating everyone connected to it. The note read: “Tomorrow, 8 June, will see the release of the first episode of Ms Marvel on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar. This post is in appreciation of the creators, the directors and all those in front and behind the camera, who collaborated to make Ms Marvel what it is,”
He added, “It is in appreciation of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for her guidance through my days of working on it. It is in appreciation of Marvel. I’m proud to be part of their conscious inclusiveness. This show is a celebration of diversity and it certainly will bring joy and pride of self identity to millions of young girls and boys of the sub-continent.”
“And last but not least, it is in appreciation of the wonderfully talented Iman Vellani. Be prepared to be thoroughly entertained and effortlessly charmed by her. Thank you and good luck, Team Ms Marvel,” The Toofaan actor concluded.
