LSC To Pathaan: Top 5 Bollywood Films Twitter Boycotted In 2022

Laal Singh Chaddha to Pathaan, take a look at the top 5 films which became a target of the "boycott trends" in 2022-

The year 2022 is almost at the end and the year 2023 is just across the corner. However, for the Bollywood film industry, 2022 didn’t prove to be a very successful year. As more than hits and blockbusters, a bunch of flop and disastrous films were released at the box office. However, is also believed that one of the major reasons behind the disappointing box office performances of the film is the “cancel culture” also known as the “boycott trend”. Almost a dozen of films became a target of the boycott trend in 2022. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the top 5 films which became a target of the “boycott trends” in 2022-

  1. Laal Singh Chaddha

One of the first-ever films that faced the boycott trend this year is Advait Chandan’s directorial “Laal Singh Chaddha” starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles. The film faced extreme social media backlash after an interview of Aamir Khan went viral in which the actor passed a statement on “India’s growing intolerance”. Following the controversy, the film performed terribly at the box office and became one of the biggest flops of the year.

2. Raksha Bandhan

And just like Laal Singh Chadha, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan also became a target of the boycott trends. Both Laal Singh Chadha and Raksha Bandhan were released on the exact same day, and both films performed terribly at the box office following the boycott trends. However, Raksha Bandhan was boycotted after an old Hinduphobic tweet of film writer Kanika Dhillon resurfaced on social media.

3. Brahmastra

Following “Laal Singh Chaddha” and “Raksha Bandhan” Ayan Mukerji’s directorial Brahmastra also became a target of social media backlash and protests. The controversy went even further ahead after the Bajrang Dal members refused to let Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Ayan Mukerji enter a temple citing an old video where Kapoor mentions that he is “a beef guy” who loves to eat the meat. However, despite boycott calls and protests, the film came out as a “hit”.

4. Liger

Another much-anticipated film that became a target of the cancel culture was Vijay Deverakonda starrer “Liger”. Netizens decided to boycott the film after Vijay Deverkonda extended support to Aamir Khan’s film “Laal Singh Chaddha”. On the other hand, many netizens decided to boycott the film due to Karan Johar’s association with the film. And just like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, Liger also turned into a huge box office disaster.

5. Pathaan

On the other hand, the latest target of the boycott trend/cancel culture is Siddharth Anand’s film Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Pathaan has been facing extreme backlash for its song “Besharam Rang”. Apparently, a segment of netizens claimed that the song features “vulgar visuals”. Many politicians even expressed their discontent over the use of saffron color in Deepika Padukone’s outfits. Many people even demanded a ban on the film.

That’s a wrap!
