Two big releases have made their way to the theatres yesterday, including the Aamir Khan starrer film Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s film Raksha Bandhan. Unfortunately, none of the two have made a good performance at the box office yet. Both the films made quite a disappointing collection at the box office, however, there’s one that still runs a step ahead of the another.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha Box Office Collection Day 1
According to the BoxOfficeIndia report, Laal Singh Chaddha collected Rs 10-11 crore net on day one of its release. The numbers are disappointing as the expectations were huge. Laal Singh Chaddha’s opening is lesser than Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhuliayaa 2, which recorded Rs 14.11 crore on the first day of its release. Even Akshay Kumar’s box office disaster Bachchhan Pandey recorded an opening of Rs 13.25 crore.
Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan Box Office Collection Day 1
As per Box Office India report, Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer has earned Rs 7.5 crore. It has lost the race with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha which is said to have earned Rs 10-11 cr. Akshay has even lost in his own race as his previous releases did slightly better on their opening day. His Holi release Bachchhan Paandey earned Rs 13.2 crore on Day 1, while Samrat Prithviraj earned Rs 10.7 crore. This year, Kartik Aaryan is sitting on the Box office throne whose Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 recorded the highest opening. With Rs 14.1 crore earning on Day 1, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was a huge hit while some mega-budget films have failed miserably.
Despite starting low at the box office Aamir Khan starrer film Laal Singh Chaddha has successfully made 10-11 cr while Akshay’s Raksha Bandhan has barely managed to get 7.5 cr by now.
Why did Laal Singh Chaddha & Raksha Bandhan have a low box office opening?
There are reasons why Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan had a low opening. Firstly, the films clashed with each other at the box office.
The second reason is the boycott trend that has surrounded both movies. For the past few weeks, #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha and #BoycottRakshaBandhan have been trending on Twitter. Certain people have boycotted the film because of Aamir Khan’s old remark where he called India an ‘intolerant nation’. People have also accused Aamir to be hinduphobic and have cited his film PK as an example. While others boycotted Akshay’s film due to an old tweet of the movie’s screenwriter, Kanika Dhillon.
While the third remains the film leak which happened just hours after the films were released and without a doubt the leak can gradually affect the box-office figures of the films.
Laal Singh Chaddha And Raksha Bandhan
However, the figures might change during the weekend, with the Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan, followed by Saturday and Sunday, and then Independence Day, the audience has quite a long weekend to visit the theatres and catch a show.
