Karan Johar is known in Bollywood as the father of nepotism, and even he accepts it. He confessed in an old press conference to wanting to completely murder Anushka Sharma’s career when Aditya Chopra signed her as the leading lady for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008. And it’s totally shocking!
A Reddit user shared a video from the 18th MAMI Film Festival in 2018, in which Karan can be seen sitting alongside Anushka during their interaction with Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra. The filmmaker goes on to say that he was disappointed by Chopra’s decision to sign the actress because he had another lead actress in mind for whom he wanted the YRF’s head honcho to sign. He even went so far as to say, “I was completely behind the scenes sabotaging her.” I was also reluctantly watching Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.”
Her performance in Band Baaja Baaraat, however, changed his mind. He described how he called her, apologised, and even complimented her performance. “Apology because I was so embarrassed that I would have actually ruined the graph of an exceptional talent,” he continued, “and secondly, a compliment because I thought she was amazing.”

Talking about his professional life, the filmmaker is all set to make his comeback as a director with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. The movie will be released on April 20, 2023, and also stars Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.
