Karan Johar Is Upset Over Not Getting Due Credit For Making Different Films

Despite making special films and experimenting with different genres Karan Johar spoke of not getting enough credit he deserves

Karan Johar has delivered some memorable movies under his banner Dharma Productions over the years. He has tried and tasted different genres yet the filmmaker feels he isn’t given enough credit for making different films. After producing Liger and Brahmastra this year KJo is ready with his next film Govinda Naam Mera. The film is said to be Vicky Kaushal’s Quirky Outing with Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar.

During the trailer launch of Govinda Naam Mera, Karan Johar spoke of not getting enough credit he deserves. The filmmaker said despite making special films and experimenting with different genres he has never received recognition. He still comes across questions if he is doing anything new as a filmmaker.

Johar said, “Everyone has their own perception of what we make, they have created this notion that Dharma will only make a certain (kind of films), no matter how many times we have broken that myth with our films. Every time we made a different film, we had to scream at the top of our lungs to tell that we have done something different. We do not the get the due credit.”

KJo cited varied films like fantasy adventure Brahmastra, family drama Kapoor & Sons, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, and romance drama My Name Is Khan that has been created under his banner. “We made a massive mainstream Brahmastra, we have also made a Kapoor & Sons. I have directed Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, I have also made My Name Is Khan, but still every time I am asked ‘aap kuch alag kab karoge’. Now, what more different can we do?”

He continued, “I am always looking for good stories, whenever that comes on my table I am excited. It is for everyone to know that we are always looking for great content, it doesn’t matter what the genre is or what the syntax of the film is.”

Govinda Naam Mera is a comic entertainer written and directed by Shashank Khaitan. The film stars Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. It is produced by Karan Johar under the banners of Dharma Productions. The much-awaited film of Vicky will release on December 16, 2022, on Disney+ Hotstar.
