Ranveer Singh starrer 83 is all set to be released this year on 10 April. The film is focusing on the Indian cricket team’s victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup led by the all-rounder Kapil Dev. The film’s promotions have started and the film’s first poster has also recently been unveiled and fans are excited to relive the triumphant moment of 1983.
In a recent interaction with the press in Chennai, Kapil Dev disclosed his first response when the makers of the film, asked for his permission to make a film on the 1983 World Cup Cricket victory. He said, “My first reaction was like no, we didn’t want to do that as we felt we were young enough still. The story should be about what happened 50-100 years back but in the end, every one of us, including me, said, yes okay, fine, if they want to make a movie on us, let them go ahead.”
Thanking the director Kabir Khan he further shared “As a cricketer, I just want to say thank you very much to Kabir and his team. We never thought that they would go to such lengths to research what went behind the scenes during the 1983 World Cup. I have no words to explain my happiness.” The filmmakers had recently revealed the first looks of the entire 83-member team As well as Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and other stars and their character played in the movie – Jiiva as K. Srikkanth, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad and Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shashtri Addinath, M Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, and R Badree as Sunil Valson from 83.
The actress Deepika Padukone will play the role of Romi Dev, wife of former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev. The actress has earlier opened up about the role, working alongside her husband, and playing the “solid support system” to Kapil Dev’s character. Talking about Romi Dev the actress said “extremely refreshing, intelligent, knowledgeable, and funny”. Deepika tells a daily, “At the end of the day, for any champion, the drive, commitment and dedication must come from within. But yes, having a solid support system is important as it allows the person to work without holding back, without any kind of emotional burden. In that sense, Romi Ji has played an extremely important part in Kapil Dev’s success. In a way, I think this has also helped him stay grounded. These characteristics are very important in the journey to success.”
