Kangana Ranaut who was approached to play the role of former actress and politician Jayalalithaa, in the film titled Thalavi was all set to go on floors in November. But it seems like the film just hit a roadblock as the biopic on Tamil Nadu’s former Chief Minister has been postponed by its makers.

Just a few days back reports of Tamil filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon making a web series on Jayalalithaa’s life made headlines. Now that is not the only reason, as it was recently reported that even the makers of the biopic couldn’t gather enough funds for the project. The estimated budget was of Rs 55 crores, and given the fact that it was to be Multilingual film, it would be released in three languages – Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. It was also speculated that Kangana Ranaut has offered Rs 20 crore for the biopic. But now it seems like it will take a while for the film to go on floors.

Ever since the news of the biopic surfaced, many were intrigued about the project. Reports claimed that South superstar Arvind Swami was approached to play the role of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and legendary actor MGR in the biopic. M G Ramachandran was the CM of Tamil Nadu for ten years, from 1977 to 1987.

Kangana in a previous interview with a leading daily opened up about the time when she read the script and heard the story. She said, “It presented an image of her that was contrary to the one I had in my mind, so I asked for some time to think over the film during which I read up some more on her and was blown away by what I learned. It’s a story that needs to be told and I am happy to be telling it even though she was the absolute opposite of me.”
