Beyond films, he also continues to captivate audiences with his theatre and on stage performances but do you believe? Such talented star was once diagnosed with dyslexia. In a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani, Junaid Khan reveals a personal struggle that many were unaware of his battle with dyslexia as a child.
Opening up for the first time, Junaid Khan hared that he was diagnosed with dyslexia at the very early age of 6 or 7. Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that primarily affects reading and spelling skills. When asked about his parents’ approach to his education Junaid said, “She (Reena Dutta) was not particular about my studies. Neither of my parents were particular.” He added, “I was also diagnosed with dyslexia very early on, so I don’t think they… so I think they were mindful of that especially in schooling.”
The conversation then shifted to the iconic 2007 film Taare Zameen Par where Aamir Khan helps a child with dyslexia overcome his challenges. When asked if Junaid’s condition inspired the film, he clarified, “Actually, it was a little bit the other way around. When Papa and Maa heard the script of Taare Zameen Par they were like ‘Ek second! We’ve seen this in our lives.’”
Junaid shared how this realization led his parents to take him to a specialist. “It was at that point that they took me to a specialist. I was diagnosed with dyslexia,” he said. Though he doesn’t clearly remember the details, he laughed while recalling, “Yes, I believe so.”
