Jiah Khan Case VERDICT: Sooraj Pancholi Acquitted After 10 Years

Actor Sooraj Pancholi has been acquitted in the Jiah Khan suicide abetment case.

Jiah Khan Case Verdict: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai has given its verdict today in the Jiah Khan case. Her ex-boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was accused of abetting Jiah Khan’s suicide. Today, after almost 10 years, the case reached its final verdict. Sooraj has been acquitted of the allegations.

The actor was seen arriving at Special CBI Court in Mumbai before the announcement of the verdict. Jugde AS Sayyed of special CBI court in Mumbai, “Due to paucity of evidence, this court can’t hold you (Sooraj Pancholi) guilty, hence acquitted.”

Actress Jiah Khan was found dead at her home in Mumbai on June 3, 2013. She was only 25 years old. A week later, a letter was seized from her apartment, purportedly written by her. In the letter,Jiah allegedly spoke about her troubled relationship with Sooraj. The letter claimed that Jiah was mentally and physically abused by Sooraj. Sooraj was then booked by Mumbai Police under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and he was arrested. 

Sooraj’s bail plea was initially rejected by a Mumbai court. On July 1, 2013, he was granted bail after signing a bond of ₹50,000.  On July 2, he was acquitted by the court. However, Jiah Khan’s mother was not happy with the verdict and she moved to higher courts. The case was then transferred to CBI.

After 10 years, Sooraj has walked home free from accusations. However, people on the Internet seem furious. Sooraj is still facing social media trial.
