Javed Akhtar Finally Addresses The Ongoing Boycott Trend/Cancel Culture

In an interview with E Times, famous writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar was seen addressing the ongoing boycott trend and cancel culture, he further shared a word about how these trends are affecting the films in the Bollywood industry, and said, “It is a passing phase. It is very evident that it doesn’t work. If the film is good and is appreciated by the audience, it will work. If it is not good and not appreciated by the audience, it won’t work. I don’t think this kind of announcement of cancel culture and boycott works at all.”

Swara Bhasker Says Boycott Trends Are ‘Hyped Up’

Apart from Javed Akhtar, Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker also opened up on the cancel culture. In a recent interview with Zoom, Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker shared her take on the ongoing boycott trend, she said,  “I don’t know how much boycott trends actually affect the business. Alia Bhatt got a lot of negative attention on social media after Sushant (Singh Rajput)’s tragic suicide, which was of course completely unfair — the kind of accusations that were being made about a lot of Bollywood A-Listers. At that time, Sadak 2 had released, it got a lot of boycott calls and negative publicity and it did very badly.”

Bollywood Films Failing At The Box Office

2022 witnessed many Bollywood flops, including Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar starrer Raksha Bandhan and Samrat Prithviraj, and Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera among many others in the list. These films were one of the most anticipated and awaited movies, however, due to the ongoing boycott trends, all the films faced a disastrous run at the box office.

On the other hand, South films like RRR, Pushpa, KGF 2, and the recently released Kaarthikeya 2 have received humongous success at the box office and emerged as the biggest blockbusters of the year.
