Is Akshay Kumar the New Bharat Kumar of Bollywood, After Manoj Kumar?

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar, celebrated for his roles that embody patriotism, has recently lauded Akshay Kumar as his successor in the depiction of national pride in film. In a recent interview, Kumar described Akshay as the perfect heir to his legacy, specifically commending his contributions to films that honor the spirit and values of India.

That’s an interesting comparison! The title “Bharat Kumar,” originally associated with Manoj Kumar, has come to symbolize an actor who portrays a patriotic, idealistic, and larger-than-life character in Bollywood films. Manoj Kumar earned that moniker due to his memorable roles in films like Upkar and Purab Aur Paschim, where he was often seen as embodying nationalistic fervor and moral integrity.

Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, is seen as a versatile actor who has played a wide range of characters, but in recent years, he’s taken on roles that reflect themes of patriotism and social issues, particularly in films like Kesari, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha etc. Akshay’s films tend to focus on current issues, patriotism, and often involve heroic, somewhat idealized characters. Given these themes, some might see him as the modern-day “Bharat Kumar.”

Renowned veteran actor Manoj Kumar, widely recognized for his memorable patriotic performances, recently conveyed his views on the present representative of this genre in Bollywood. He conveyed his respect for Akshay Kumar, remarking, “I have always viewed Akshay Kumar as my successor in depicting patriotism on film.” Manoj Kumar, whose contributions in classics such as Upkar and Purab Aur Paschim have earned him the moniker “Bharat Kumar,” regards Akshay as the perfect successor to this esteemed legacy.

The context for this praise is the upcoming release of Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated film Sky Force, set against a patriotic backdrop. Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, the movie promises to be a visual spectacle with balanced themes of patriotism and emotional depth.

Looking at the box office earnings of the first day, Sky Force is set to give out their best and create a broader impact upon the viewers due to the occasion of Republic Day, hitting right just around the release date.

Sky Force is an action-drama film focused on India’s first airstrike, the Sargodha airbase attack in Pakistan, during the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965. Besides a whopping box office collection on the opening day, there is perfect synchronisation between the lead actors. After Akshay’s multiple films received a disastrous response in the theatres, Sky Force could probably be the one that will overpower beautifully.

However, whether Akshay Kumar will earn a permanent association with this title depends on how his career evolves. He’s certainly one of the biggest stars of this generation, and his films often resonate with national pride, so it’s possible that he could be considered in the same vein as Manoj Kumar in terms of portraying strong, patriotic characters.
