Adah Sharma, the actress known for her strong portrayals in The Kerala Story and Baster: The Naxal Story, is making waves again, not just for her acting but for her candid revelations. In a recent interview on Bharti TV, she opened up about the challenges of clapping for those who may not deserve awards, how she manages to stay graceful in such moments and her own journey in the film industry.
Adah Sharma revealed her thoughts on the dilemma many actors face at award shows. Despite the success of her films, like The Kerala Story, which crossed the 300-crore mark and became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2023, and her recent film Baster: The Naxal Story, she admits there have been moments when she had to applaud winners she felt didn’t deserve the accolades.
In the interview, when asked about advice for young actors entering the industry, Adah shared how her upbringing shaped her perspective on these situations. “My parents taught me to smile and clap, even if I don’t win. You have to be gracious. Even if you think someone is undeserving, you smile and clap because that’s how life is.”
Adah Sharma reflected on how others are often discovered in random places like streets or cafes and get offered roles, while her journey has been marked by nearly two decades of hard work. Adah said, “You can’t sit there and sulk. If someone else gets a role, you have to be happy for them. That’s what I’ve been taught.”
Adah didn’t shy away from sharing what goes through her mind during award ceremonies. She explained how she might sit in the fifth row, smile, and clap for someone else, but inside, the experience can be difficult. She humorously added that while she claps for a winner, she’s often thinking, “In my mind, I’ll think, ‘This person got such a big chance in front of the whole industry, and look how lazy their dance steps are.’ Or I’ll say, ‘They got this movie role, and this is how they act?’ I’ll think it in my head, but I won’t say it out loud.”
Despite her internal thoughts, Adah Sharma stressed the importance of maintaining a brave front, stating, “I’ll smile and put up a brave front, and clap. But inside, I’m dying, though no one will know it. I won’t show it.”
Adah’s success didn’t come easily, and she spoke about the struggles she faced while making films like The Kerala Story. She mentioned that before its release, the film faced criticism, last-minute interview cancellations, and even bans in several states. Despite these hurdles, the movie broke records and grossed 300 crores.
She emphasized how important it is for actors to be prepared for their moment, stating, “When you finally get the offer, you have to run, jump at the opportunity, and give your best. Of course, it feels bad when you don’t get roles, but when you do, you give it everything, and make sure they have no choice but to cast you again.”
On the work front, Adah Sharma will next be seen in Reeta Sanyal, a web series directed by Abhirup Ghosh and written by Amit Khan. The series is set to release on October 14, 2024, on Disney+ Hotstar, and fans are eager to see her in a new avatar.
