Gupt: The Hidden Truth, released in 1997, is considered one of the best thriller movies in Hindi Cinema. Starring Bobby Deol in the lead role, with Manisha Koirala and Kajol, the film took the box office by storm when it was released. Made with a budget of Rs 9.5 crore, the film’s worldwide box office collection was recorded at over Rs 33 crore.

When released on 4 July 1997, the film received rave reviews from the audience. Bobby Deol, the lead actor, was the show stealer and people hailed his performance. The songs of the film were another thing that people enjoyed, apart from the nail-biting thrill that the story offered. A huge crowd used to gather outside the theatres as people waited to get tickets and enjoy the classic film. It’s been 25 years and people still enjoy watching this masterpiece.

To celebrate the silver anniversary, a special screening of ‘Gupt’ will be held in Mumbai on July 9 where the leading actors Bobby Deol, Manisha Koirala and Kajol will make their presence, along with other cast and crew. Director Rajiv Rai, writer and production designer Shabbir Boxwala, music director Viju Shah, and more are said to be present at the event.

Shabbir Boxwala said, “The way Radio Nasha is planning it, I am very thrilled. At the time of the release, we couldn’t enjoy the success, due to certain reasons. We can finally enjoy the film’s success now. I told the same thing to Rajiv as well, that let’s enjoy it now. God has given us a chance. All the actors are also excited for the screening, including Mukesh Rishi and Dalip Tahil. Unfortunately, some cast members are no more, like Om Puri. He was a vital part of the film. Even Ashok ji (cinematographer Ashok Mehta). I’ll miss him the most.”

The film featured iconic talents like Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Dalip Tahil, Raj Babbar, Mukesh Rishi and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. The man behind the superhit music of the film was Viju Shah. He composed the music for the film and won an award for ‘Best Background Score’.
