How Dilip Kumar Reacted On Colorization Of Mughal-E-Azam?

Rajeev Dwivedi reveals how Dilip Kumar reacted when he first told him about the colorization of his masterpiece film Mughal-e-Azam.

Mughal-e-Azam is an epic historical drama film starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Madhubala and Dilip Kumar. Released in 1960 in Black & White, the film is still considered one of the best Hindi films ever made with each actor giving benchmark performances. In 2004, the film returned to theatres in colored version. The idea of colorisation of a masterpiece received mixed reviews from people at that time. But what did the thespian Dilip Kumar had to say about it?

When Rajeev Dwivedi went to meet Dilip Kumar and give him the news of colorisation of Mughal-e-Azam, he admits that he was nervous about Dilip Kumar’s reaction.

Rajeev told, “Dilip Saab said to me that we meet two kinds of people in life. One, who won’t be pleased by your success; and second, whose ego would be hurt by you. So, do not bother about both kinds of people. Just focus on making the colored film with the same grandeur as it was made by K Asif in 1960. I think Dilip Saab was very happy when the film was being colored.”

“We all are saddened with his demise. He did only a handful number of films but all of them were amazing. Hats off to Saira Banu Ji who stood by him till his last breath. It is a big thing to stay together for 55 years. My heartfelt condolences to her,” Rajeev further added.
