Gauri Sawant Reacts To Sushmita Sen Portraying Her On Screen In Taali

Transgender rights activist Gauri Sawant reacts to Sushmita Sen playing her role in Taali

Sushmita Sen recently announced her next project titled Taali in which she will play the role of a transwoman. The Miss Universe put the internet on fire unveiling her fierce look in Taali, a biopic of transgender rights activist Gauri Sawant. The latter reacted on the actress portraying her on screen.

Gauri Sawant thinks Taali is a big victory for the whole community. Post the release of the first look poster from her autobiography, Gauri reacted when Sushmita got on board to play her. Initially, she couldn’t believe it and recalled Sen dancing to Chunri Chunri. Having no clue which actor would enact her she thought of a south actor but to her surprise, Sush signed the project.

Gauri Sawant said, “I had no idea who would play my role. I thought some south actor or actress would play my role. When I was told Sushmita Sen’s name, I laughed. Her Chunri Chunri song kept coming to my mind. I really couldn’t believe that she would be playing my role at first. But after signing contracts, I was convinced. It is a very big thing to make a biopic, especially on the life of a transgender and that too Sushmita Sen is playing my role.”

Talking about her community and project she said, “First, I want to make it clear that there are many transgender actors who will be seen in the project, who were picked after a thorough audition process. I am also attached to the project, not as an actor, but in some way. So, it is not just that Sushmita is the only one acting in the project. Most of us from the community wanted to be women, and that is the reason we decided to wear a saree. Now, it is a mark of respect for us that a female actor is playing the role, instead of an male actor, which we have seen happening in the past”.

In the first-look poster, Sushmita Sen looked fierce wearing a maroon saree and a large bindi on her forehead. The web series will be helmed by Marathi director Ravi Jadhav. Sharing the poster the actress took to her Instagram account and wrote, “Taali – Bajaugi nahi, Bajvaugi #firstlook as #ShreegauriSawant Nothing makes me prouder & more grateful than to have the privilege of portraying this beautiful person & of bringing her story to the world!! ❤️ Here’s to life & to everyone’s right to live it with dignity!!! ? I love you guys!!!”
